Recently, a systematic review was conducted by the Well@School team. The aim was to identify health promotion interventions regarding mental health and wellbeing with the use of digital methods, in primary school settings. Only six relevant studies were revealed.
Despite the small number of the studies, they provided promising results in the promotion of mental health and wellbeing through digital interventions. More specifically, regarding teachers, the results showed that digital interventions were more effective and acceptable compared to traditional methods in increasing their knowledge as well as in identifying and managing behavioral problems. Regarding pupils, interventions containing digital games seemed to improve their cognitive and communication skills, while a reduction in pupils’ internalizing emotions was observed.
It can be concluded that, in a digital world, technology can be a cost-effective tool in mental health promotion and mental health problems’ management in school settings, where children spend most of their day time.
